i made this piece as a call for artists for the 10th edition of the @radicaljewishcalendar.
this year's theme is antifascist resistance in the human and more than human worlds. im thinking of the klamath river breaking free; of operation al-aqsa flood; of mangrove forests that calm tidal waves. im thinking of rematriations of land to indigenous peoples; of protective fires; of monarch and salmon migrations and
i recently was told the story of fion mac cumhaill agus an bradΓ‘n feasa (& the salmon of wisdom for the first time by @dougie.mackay.story, who actually shares one of my lineages names. i haven't been able to stop thinking about the themes of accidental discovery and divinity // salmon as ancestral memory // water as change // revolutionaries as poets.
i've also continued to return to the idea that the lands miss us back. salmon somehow find their way back to the rivers of their spawning thousands of miles away. this is how the portals of grief, loss, and lineage re// turning feel:: an anchor that somehow we are meant to find our way back. that despite time & separation, it is our intuitive nature to remember, to resist, and honor the land and ecosystems who are remembering and resisting right next to us.
